Board and rulemaking update: spectacle rules, jurisprudence CE, and CE Broker
The Optometry Board takes up cleanup language for the spectacle rules, the Optician Board holds the jurisprudence CE exam at the 2025 version, TDOA presents on scope of practice, and the state moves CE records to CE Broker.
Spectacle rules
The Optometry Board will be discussing proposed language to clean up the spectacle rules that created so much consternation. The TDOA will be present, and we ask that any interested optician please plan to attend for support as well. The date of the October meeting can be found on the state website under the Optometry Board meeting calendar.
Jurisprudence CE exam
The Optician Board has voted to leave the jurisprudence CE exam the same as the 2025 exam. The exam will not be graded, but it must still be received at the state board office by December 31. This is in anticipation of a rule change eliminating the CE requirement, expected to take effect in the near future.
Scope of practice
The TDOA will be presenting and discussing the clarification of several of our laws to better define the scope of practice. As an organization, we feel that the advancement of artificial intelligence and the ambiguity of some of our laws call for revisions. Please watch the live stream or attend the meeting in person to show your support.
CE Broker
The state will be partnering with CE Broker, an online brokerage that maintains CE records. Random audits will require you to create an account and upload your CE hours for the state to verify. A practitioner may set up a free account at any time to maintain their CE hours in case they are audited. An account is only required if you are audited, but setting one up in advance is encouraged. A certain percentage of licenses are randomly audited each year.
